Disney’s Dark Side

-Disney’s most fashionable film-

MALEFICENT

-Who knew being bad could look this good-

First hitting our screens in 1959 in ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ Maleficent has been considered
one of the most glamorous and evil Disney villains of all time.
The 2014 rejig (telling the story from her point of view) will see no change there. Angelina Jolie plays the title role and from what I’ve seen looks absolutely stunning!

 -Serious cheekbone envy-

Making this the most fashionable film Disney has ever made are collaborations with both designer –

Stella McCartney and cosmetic super-brand – MAC.

“We wanted to bring a sense of classic beauty that was also very sexy into the collection.”-

For the ‘Maleficent’ collection Mac teamed up with the film’s makeup artists Rick Baker and Toni G.

Together they have created a 14 piece line inspired by the movie.

“The collection of colours we chose were based around Old Hollywood, because Maleficent was from that time. In the Disney original, she was green with purple eye shadow, but because of the story line, we decided to stick with neutral tones and a beautiful red lip.”

-Toni G-

“The woman who wears this collection is confident, has classic tastes, but she’s also a little dramatic.”

As I’m a big fan of a red lip, one of my picks from the collection is the lipstick (left) in

‘True Love’s Kiss.’

Another is the nail lacquer (right) in
 ‘Uninvited.’

-Quick Tip From The Professionals-

“If you’re going to do the full Maleficent eye, start with the light-coloured eye shadow as the base, and draw on your first layer of eyeliner, which should be at the base of your lashes – get the dramatic shape using that, and build from there. Blend the hues in Carbon, Concrete, and Ground Brown to define the eye and emphasise the contour, just be sure to work in layers so you don’t end up with a heavy, smoky effect. The trick is to really pop your eyes and lips, and just be confident about it.”

-Stella McCartney Kids Collection-
I remember as a child going to Halloween and fancy dress parties, all my friends would be dressed as fairies, princesses or cute little cats. I however, (with the help of my mum) would transform into a gruesome witch, a mummy or a personal favourite of mine – Frankenstein.
No, I never went through a fairy phase. I always ran around wanting to play the baddie and trying to scare people. So Stella McCartney’s Maleficent collection has my inner child jumping for joy!

The adorable collection, which has eight designs for both boys and girls

aged between four and 14, are based on the characters from the film her favourite design of course is the Maleficent dress.

“She’s a baddy with an unusual sense of goodness inside of her and I wanted the Maleficent dress to embody both the cheekiness and strength of character that she possesses. We used gory visuals – like the bats – that have been feminised and made beautiful by foil printing on tulle.”

The Maleficent collection is available online and in Stella McCartney, Disney and selected kids stores worldwide. The pieces will range in price from £45 to £110 with ten percent of the sales made in Stella McCartney stores and online benefiting charity SOS Children’s Villages.

Disney really have made this a must-see film and I will definitely be popping to my local MAC store and getting myself to some evil makeup treats. And although I will be incredibly jealous of any 8 year old I see wearing one of McCartney designs,
I can’t wait!
The movie’s release is on May 30th.
Buy your tickets and popcorn!

Over and out,
