I love a red lipstick.
There is nothing more empowering, I swear! Having a bad day? Put on red lipstick! No time to get ready? No problem, throw your hair in a bun and put on red lipstick! Seriously, I’m not lying when I say there’s something truly magic about it. I remember my friend once saying that lipstick equals instant glamour. And its true! No matter what mood you’re in or how tired you are, a touch of red lippy has the ability to lift your spirits in seconds. Since the beginning of time lipstick has been symbol of both style and status and a true beauty icon that has been a constant in make-up bags all over the world.
When it comes to lipstick I’ve tried and tested just about all of them from high-street to high-end, you name it I’ve probably tried it. I’m pale, very pale and so when I want to add a splash of colour to my face, I reach for the red! Here are some of my favourites.
-Chanel-
-Rouge Allure-
(Shade – 99, Pirate)
£26.00
‘The next generation of ROUGE ALLURE dresses lips with unmistakable attitude. A new formula with concentrated, ultra-thin pigments offers radically intense, long-wearing colour with full coverage and a satin finish. Leaves lips supple and protected with lasting comfort.’
I remember getting my first ever Chanel lipstick, It was a gift for my 21st birthday from my best friend Holly. I had always wanted one, something about it made me feel grown up and refined. To this day I still swear by it! The Rouge Allure collection is my favourite, with its velvety texture and a great range of shades, its one I’ll wear for a life time.
-Dior–
-Diorific-
(Shade – 38, Diva)
£27.50
‘Presenting the Dior spirit of extreme luxury, in saturated colour wrapped up in a precious case. Specially formulated for a perfect balance between hold and comfort, Diorific glides on with a rich texture and intense, long-lasting colour.’
Until a couple of years ago I had never actually owned any Dior lipstick. Now its by far my favourite! Again as a gift I was bought my first Diorific lipstick by my boyfriend. The shade he picked originally had been 39 – Lady, an absolute beauty (now sadly discontinued.) But from that lipstick I was well and truly hit by the Dior bug and went on to purchase a whole range! The lipstick itself glides on, it moistures the lips but isn’t at all oily and stays put all day!
If you want to make an investment on a lipstick this is the one to go for!
-MAC–
(Shade – Ruby Woo)
£15.50
‘Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made MAC famous.’
MAC has always been a firm favourite of mine and as far as a classic red lip can go, Ruby Woo is perfection. I started using MAC productions for performing in the theatre, simply because it stays put and no amount of aggressive stage lighting can make it budge! Now It’s my go to lipstick for a night out on the tiles. You can dance to your hearts content without having to worry about running to the toilets every few minutes to reapply!
-Rimmel London–
-Lasting Finish By Kate Moss-
(Shade – 01)
£5.49
‘The 1st Lipstick collection created by Kate Moss High intensity colour for up to 8 hours. Formula infused with Black Diamonds, reflects light like never before. Captures all the flair, edge and timelessness of Kate’s unique look.’
So I have to admit, when this range first came out a few years ago it was pretty much everyone’s Christmas/Birthday present from me. Yes the lipstick its self is great and its amazing value for money but for me it was the personal touch. My first name being Kate I thought it was brilliant that each lipstick was signed with my name! That aside, it really is a great everyday lipstick with a varied range of shades. If you’re on a budget Rimmel is always the answer!
Over and out,
