“Off with their heads!”
The Queen of Hearts was always a favourite of mine. She was wild and crazy and wore the most lavish gowns. I knew eventually I wanted to portray a villain within my ‘Once Upon A Time…’ series and Queeny here seemed like the perfect place to start. Her child-like, bratty attitude depicted in the Disney classic made her quite a comedic character whereas the non-animation remakes saw her as a high fashion elitist, spoilt rotten and forever getting her own way. So along with Zoe (my photographer) we set off to Queen Mary’s Rose Garden in Regents Park to create our very own Wonderland.
“Who dares to taint with vulgar paint the royal flower bed? For painting my roses red, someone will lose their head.”
The rose garden really was the perfect location for the shoot and luckily we made it just in time as the flowers were still in bloom. Dress wise, obviously I wanted red and when I saw the lace detailing on this little number from Chi Chi London (via ASOS) I knew it was the perfect match. I accessorised with a heart necklace, gold crown and love-heart patterned tights, again all from ASOS (you really can find everything on there can’t you!) I then played around with props…I do love a prop. Mainly roses and playing cards and was super happy with how it all turned out. Especially the Queen of Hearts playing card close up, when we got that shot Zoe and I both did a little happy/excited dance in the middle of the park haha.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, these shoots are my favourites. I love the creativity involved and seeing it all come together during a shoot is amazing!
