Hotel Review : K West Hotel

Hi all, welcome back to the blog and to another Hotel Review. This time in the city I call home – London! I love reviewing hotels in London as it’s such a lovely mini-break and a great little midweek or weekend treat to reset and press pause on everyday life. This time it was a trip to Shepherds Bush to check out the K West Hotel. {Gifted Stay}

“Welcome to a world where rock and roll swagger meets urban cool.”

Formerly the BBC Kensington House Recording Studios, K west has a vast wealth of musical history. From the early 70’s it was home to the studio where the likes of David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Roxy Music and the Kinks all laid down tracks. As soon as you enter you can tell this is a hotel with a twist, forget posh faceless lobbies or boring, pretentious lounge bars. K West is a hybrid of rock and roll swagger and urban cool. Myself and Lloyd checked in for a little staycation on a Friday night, to experience everything the hotel had to offer. From the executive suites to the dining options and spa facilities. Let’s take a closer look…

The Room

We were booked into one of the Executive Rooms at the hotel. A large room with ample space, including a massive bed, lounge area and desk. It was the perfect space to unwind after a long day of shopping (FYI the Westfield shopping centre is just across the road… handy!) The room was very bright and looked out onto a quaint residential street with rows upon rows of old fashioned town houses. Each room is also kitted out with a funky little in-room tablet allowing you to order room service, late check out and spa treatments from the comfort of your hotel bed which I loved! (Rooms start from £126.00 and can be booked directly via the K West Hotel website.)

Studio Kitchen & Bar

On the Friday evening we were lucky enough to dine at the hotels restaurant – Studio Kitchen. In all honesty, hotel restaurants are never my favourite and I usually opt for dinner out however to my pleasant suprise, the food was excellent! I’ve spoken about the Hotels’s afternoon tea before of the blog (which I loved) so it was fun to see what they offered in regards to dinner. Not only was the food good but Lloyd, who is a very picky eater went as far as saying it was one of the best meals he’d ever had… I know! crazy right?! But in all fairness it really was excellent, my only gripe would be that there was quite a large gap between the starter and main but other than that the dining experience was top notch!

Room Service

After wining and dining to our hearts content on the Friday night we returned to our room with some cocktails in hand to relax and watch a film. We decided – for the ultimate treat to order breakfast as room service in the morning and so before we went to sleep I used the in room tablet to make our order. It was super simple to use and offered a whole range of breakfast options. I made the order for 10am and chose a range of fruit salads, juice, teas and cooked breakfasts. We woke up to a knock on the door and the breakfast was brought in and placed on our table. We enjoyed it whilst listening to some music, it really was the most perfect start to a weekend!

Final Thoughts

My stay at K West was kindly gifted however my opinions are truthful to my personal experience. It is in a great location if you’re visiting London to shop as Westfield is so close – literally across the road. It’s also the perfect place to have a spa weekend and switch off from busy London life. The food and drink is very good and much better quality than other hotels I’ve stayed at. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and there to offer advice and recommendations regarding food, drink and local attractions. The price is fair for such a good location and overall the vibe of the hotel is different to most – offering a modern twist on traditional Hoteliers. The rooms, although not brand new offer lots of space which is often lacking in central London hotels and the general decor is well put together. I look forward to visiting again soon.
