“Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?”
Why hello! Welcome back to the second installment of my new ‘Once Upon A Time’ series. I got such an amazing reaction to Belle I couldn’t wait to get going with the next one. Now for those of you that read my previous post, I left a few clues at the end suggesting who my next character would be, well – oops! A tad mis-leading as obviously I was talking about (drum roll please…) Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz! One of my all time favourite films. However when the day came to shoot – I was dressed, Zoe (my photographer) was prepped and the little pup playing ToTo was ready for her close up then… RAIN RAIN and MORE RAIN!! We were soaked and I just knew I wouldn’t be happy with the shots so decided to postpone and re-schedule. So yep, apologies for leading you astray however today’s character was next on my list anyway AND another of my all-time favourite characters.
“Lip’s red as blood.
Hair Black as ebony.
Skin white as snow.”
Snow white will always hold a very special place in my heart, not only because it was Disney’s first feature length animated film (and I’m a big Disney fan) but also because being so pale people have always referenced me as Snow White. Again, as with my last post I wanted steer away for traditional cosplay and wear actual clothes you can but on the highstreet/online as oppose to a costume. ASOS once again proved to be the easiest way to find items that somewhat replicated the original costume and so with a mix of ASOS own brand and a few smaller ASOS market place brands, I was able to create my version of Snow White and truth be told, I’m pretty damn chuffed with how it turned out! I absolutely adore the headband by Johnny Loves Rosie and the peplum jacket has made a fair few apperances this week, it’s the perfect transitional piece for when the weather isn’t quite sure what it’s doing. Anyway, I met Zoe in North London were we wondered into Finsbury Park to find the location. I knew I wanted an enchanted forest kinda vibe and luckily as soon as we walked in, we found a little area covered in high trees with low hanging branches. Sadly I couldn’t get the birds and squirrels to dance around me but hey, you can just imagine that bit. Armed with the essential props – A mirror and a (poisoned) apple of course we went ahead and shot the story. We had given ourselves just under an hour to do it but after brain-storming and sharing inspiration boards/images before-hand we knew exactly what we wanted and had the entire shoot wrapped in 20 minutes!

“Over the seven jeweled hills, beyond the seventh wall, in the cottage of the seven dwarfs, dwells Snow White, fairest one of all.”
I have to say, since adding this series to my blog and over on my Instagram (@littlemisswinney) I’ve really been inspired to step out of my comfort zone a bit more when it comes to blogging. When Zoe and I plan one of these shoots we both get so excited because it’s different to the same old, same old. I love street style and fashion posts etc, but every so often it’s nice to get my creative juices flowing and allow myself to do something just for me and to simply enjoy the process. It’s no secret I struggle sometimes with my ‘life online,’ I struggle with comparison and constantly weighing myself up against other content creators. This has to stop and it is slowly getting better as I’m moving away from the traditional posing in front of a flower wall type of posts. I want to express myself and what inspires me, talk to you about the other sides of my life such as my love of theatre… thers’s a post about that coming very soon FYI! But as I was saying, this series has allowed me to let go and do something I love and that’s fairly unique within the blogging world. I have so many ideas buzzing around, I’ve made a hashtag – #KateRecreates which will encompass not only this ‘Once Upon A Time’ series but following this, other posts I’m planning on. I’m still coming up with ideas but I’d love to do a ‘Through The Ages’ series, exploring fashion from eras past and ‘Girl’s On Film’ where I’ll recreate famous film scenes and/or actresses. At the moment it’s all just an idea in my head but I hope you’ll continue to support me and hopefully you’ll enjoy these, slightly more theatrical posts. If you are enjoying them then please do let me know, It can often feel like I talking to myself (regardless of the analytics I see) so yeah, say hey in the comments below or over on my socials, It’s always a pleasure to hear from you!
“A poisoned apple.
A curse.
…Love’s first kiss.”
*Spoiler alert* Prince charming turns up, plants a kiss on Snow and they all live happily ever after! I have absolutely loved portraying the character of Snow White and I sincerely hope you’ve enjoyed the post too. I won’t give a clue as to who the next character will be (I’ve learnt my lesson from last time) but rest assured Dorothy will still be coming and perhaps… my first Disney Villain? As always, I’d love to hear your feedback along with any ideas of who else I could take on in this series. Thank you once again for stopping by, see you soon!
