The Wizard Of OZ
-75th Aniversary-
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of ‘The Wizard Of OZ’ some of the most well respected designers of today, have dreamed up a very fashionable way to honor the event.
They’ve designed one of a kind couture pieces – for dolls!
Inspired by the leading ladies of the film, designers including Trina Turk, Donna Karan, BCBG Max Azria, Chris Benz, Jenny Packham, Marc Jacobs, Betsey Johnson, and Anna Sui will be creating glamorous mini couture for Dorothy, Glinda the Good Witch, and the Wicked Witch of the West all in a collaboration with Warner Bros.
Looking at the various sketches (the dresses are yet to be made) it is obvious that for the most part, the designers have taken a nontraditional route and have bought the characters bang up to date with the avant garde looks re-envisioning each character’s signature style.
-Designer Chris Benz was inspired by the famous tornado scene for his
windswept gingham update for Dorothy-
-Designer Trina Turk drew from the star’s adventurous spirit and transformed her gingham pinafore into a chic peplum jumpsuit-
“These creations are beyond expectation—inspired, visionary and absolutely enchanting from head to toe. This is The Wizard of Oz and its leading ladies in a way you’ve never seen them before. Each doll is quite … bewitching, to say the least, and we are thrilled and honored to be a part of both the anniversary celebration, and generating proceeds for such a worthy cause.”
-Robert Tonner, Tonner Doll Company CEO and acclaimed doll artist-
-Donna Karan (left) and Jenny Packham (right) both put an ethereal spin on the
Wicked Witch’s look-
-Designer Lubov Azria used a ball gown modeled after her first design for Max Azria Atelier for Glinda’s BCBG outfit–
The miniature couture looks will be modeled on Tonner’s 22 inch dolls. They’ll make their debut during New York Fashion Week on September 4th. After which, they will become available for bidding on eBay ‘Giving Works.’
The charity auction will run until September 14th with all proceeds going to
‘There’s No Place Like Home’ a campaign benefitting Habitat for Humanity.
With the help of these incredibly talented fashion designers, the leading ladies of
‘The Wizard Of Oz’ are going to transform the
Yellow Brick Road into one unforgettable runway!
Over and out,
